Vaginal Reshaping & Tightening Surgery - Vaginoplasty

Many women have concerns at some point in their life with the appearance of their genital area as its difficult to know what is normal and what isn't. Its important to understand that everyone is different and there is no pattern for your vaginal area should look. Some women are unhappy with how they look and feel and this can affect their confidence in daily life and want to take steps to recify any problems. Also, simply with ageing and childbirth the labia and surrounding vaginal tissue, both external and internal, can change in shape, size and tone, and in many cases women are just not happy with parts of their genitalia.  This can be embarrassing, uncomfortable and can even lead to sexual dissatisfaction or difficulty.

The procedure for vaginal reshaping and tightening surgery

Reshaping and tightening surgery are generally carried out on the following areas:

  • Labia minora/labia majora (inner lips of the vagina) - Women with exceptionally long or unequal lengths of the labia minora can have them aesthetically reshaped. Some patients desire to have a more youthful appearing external vagina by reshaping the inner or outer labia.
  • Pubis mound - Removal of unwanted fatty deposits of the pubis mound just above the vulva can produce an aesthetically pleasing contour.
  • Clitoris - Surgical correction to ensure better exopsure of the clitoris.
  • Vaginal tightening - This is the procedure to enhance the feelings of sexual gratification. This is accomplished through a reconstruction of vital vaginal areas; namely the outer third of the vagina, the internal diameter and vaginal opening.

Your Cosmetic Surgeon will discuss options these with you to help you decide what procedure is right for you.

Recovery from vaginal reshaping and tightening surgery

Surgery is carried out as a day case, either under general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic with sedation. Women may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappears completely after 1-2 weeks. After the procedure you will wear a panty liner. The sutures/stitches dissolve so there is no need for physical removal. Depending on the operation you choose, your Cosmetic Surgeon will advise you as to when you can commence exercise and sexual intercourse. Recovery is quite rapid - a week after surgery you should be able to return to work. It is very important that you attend the appointments that have been made for you to care for your wounds and see your Cosmetic Surgeon post-operatively.
